JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC)- The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has identified the two suspects involved in a carjacking, vehicle pursuit and crash Thursday evening.
Deputies say that 25-year-old Corey Sanchez Howard of Birmingham and 30-year-old Dequan Montray Brown of Pinson robbed and carjacked a man in the 100 block of 7th Street NE in Graysville. The victim told authorities that he was robbed at gunpoint.
The stolen vehicle was located on Cherry Avenue near Republic Road and deputies gave pursuit. They say that at Cherry and Heflin avenues, the suspect driving lost control of the vehicle, left the road and struck a utility pole. The car then came back to the road and struck a patrol car.
Deputies took the two suspects into custody and also discovered an amount of cocaine, marijuana, and prescription drugs inside the stolen vehicle. Deputies alos recoved a gun believed to have been used in the robbery and money believed to have been taken from the victim.
Howard and Brown were injured in the crash and taken to UAB for treatment, where they remain. Their injuries are not life-threatening and they will be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail upon release.
The deputy involved in the crash was treated for minor injuries and released from St. Vincent's Hospital.
Howard has been charged with first degree robbery, felony attempting to elude law enforcement, reckless endangerment, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, first degree unlawful possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, trafficking cocaine, failure to affix tax stamp, forbidden possession of a handgun, failure to possess registered felons card and first degree criminal mischief. His bond totals $320,000.
Brown has been charged with first degree robbery, first degree theft of property, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, first degree unlawful possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, trafficking cocaine and failure to affix tax stamp. His bond totals $303,000.
