Rosa Parks statue to arrive in Washington D.C.
News

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC)- A statue honoring civil rights icon Rosa Parks will arrive at the nation's capitol later today. It will be unveiled at an official ceremony on February 27th. President Obama will speak at the ceremony.

It will be the first time a statue of an African American woman will sit in the capitol. Parks' refusal to give up her bus seat to a white person in the civil rights era led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

Her statue is nearly nine feet tall and will be part of the National Statuary Hall collection.
